A lot of people send me letters asking for a tutorial on heels or toes. I wrote one, years ago, in 2009. It is my basic sock pattern. I linked it on the side of this page because no one looks through the archives. If the pictures don't do it for you, there are people who have filmed themselves crocheting heels on YouTube. I keep thinking that I will be one of them, but naaah....I will probably never make it to sitting down and making a video because I can't film myself crocheting and no one at home ever seems to want to help.
While I am sitting here looking at things, a quick glance through my mail bag:
1. You can make socks with any yarn your little heart desires. I can't guarantee that they will feel nice on your feet or that you will like them when they are done, but yes, any yarn you wish. Fill your boots!!!
2. You can regauge by taking your gauge number and dividing mine into it. So if your gauge is 10 sts to one inch and mine is 5 sts to one inch, divide 5 into 10. Your number always goes on top in the division. Your result (in this example) will be "2". Multiply that number by all the other stitch numbers in the pattern and you will regauge it. So, if I work up to 44 sts, then you will work up to 88 sts. Most gauge will not be as neat and tidy as this, you will have to round up or down and fudge a little if you end up with a decimal point in your answer. That means that you will also have to keep a stitch pattern in mind as well.
3. When in doubt, especially if you've never made socks before, put them down when you've thoroughly confused and upset yourself and come back to to them a few days later. It's probably the heel. If people are going to over think anything, it will be the heel. Don't over think it. Just do it.
See you all when vacation is over!!!!
:)
